FAQ

Questions and Answers

  • What type of wax is in your candles?

100% soy wax. Soy wax is a completely renewable resource (the leftover bean husks are commonly fed to livestock!) and all of the soy we use in our products was grown in the US, decreasing transportation emissions. This is a clean-burning wax that is carbon-neutral, making it super sustainable and ethical for use.

What do you use for scent in your candles?

We use only essential oil-based fragrances that don't contain harmful ingredients (e.g., our products don't need a Prop 65 label) and have been inspected by independent 3rd party verification.

Do you use essential oils in your products?

All of our candles are infused with natural essential oils contained in the fragrance added. We do not use essential oils alone because they produce very little "hot throw," or the scent produced when your candle burns. They're also super expensive. If we used only essential oils to scent our candles, our products wouldn't smell very good and they would be crazy expensive (i.e., you probably wouldn't buy them). We didn't want to use a terrible-for-you, cause-a-headache fragrance, either, so we found extremely clean burning fragrances that contain essential oils but that don't contain bad-for-you ingredients. If you'd like to learn more about what we don't allow in our fragrances, please visit this article.

Is there any lead or zinc in your products?

Never! Our wax, fragrances, and even our wicks are lead and zinc free.

    Animal testing? Vegan?

All of our products are 100% vegan and have never been nor will they ever be tested on animals. We're currently applying for Leaping Bunny certification. Learn more about that here.

*Soybeans were harmed in the making of our products.

Is your wax organic or non-GMO?

No. We believe in non-GMO products, but with 97% of the soy grown in the US being GMO sourced we also believe in leaving the organic soy that's left for food consumption, not home decor. Soy wax in candles also cannot be classified as organic after undergoing the chemical composition changes (liquid to solid) necessary for candle production.

How do I reuse or recycle my used candle(s)?

Glad you asked! The mason jars our candles come in can repurposed in a variety of beautiful ways. Please check out our link here for a full description on how to clean and ideas for repurposing your mason jar.

How long is your candle burn time? How many candles should I buy per room?

Our 8 oz candles will burn for around 45-60 hours and one candle should easily fill small and medium sized rooms. The best way to lengthen the burn time of your candle is to trim the wick to 1/4" before each burn. If you would like a consistent burn (i.e., the top of the candle stays flat as it burns to the bottom of the jar) keep the candle lit for around 3 hours each burn, until the wax melts to the edges of the container.

Do these candles make good gifts?

Especially for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, happy spring salutations, visiting friends and family, newly met acquaintances, and Tinder/Hinge/eHarmony/Coffee Meets Bagel dates (if you had to look up "Coffee Meets Bagel" you must buy at least one candle).
